Born in Sacramento, California to a music-loving family, Sam Ashworth was born with a natural passion for music. Throughout his childhood, Sam spent much of his time in recording studios and at concerts, learning first-hand about the music industry from his Grammy Award-winning father, Charlie Peacock. Eager to put his own name in lights, five-year-old Sam had to settle for writing and performing original songs such as “Outside Way in the World, Oh Baby” and “Baby Don’t You Know What Your Mind is About” with his sister in their living room. Although these songs never reached any global charts, they remain hits within the Ashworth family to this day. When live music wasn’t filling the Ashworth home, artists such as Steely Dan, Joni Mitchell, James Taylor, and Al Green blasted from the family stereo and became the soundtrack of Sam’s childhood.
After years of watching his father write and produce records, Sam was inspired to pursue his own music career. When he received a guitar for Christmas at age 14, Sam was finally able to marry the words and melodies in his head with music. Through exposure to artists such as The Beatles, XTC, Blur, Cat Stevens, and Bob Marley, Sam matured as a songwriter and developed a sound uniquely his. When he was 16, he fell in love with Nick Drake’s, Five Leaves Left. This album immediately inspired him to write the song, “I Won’t Stay Long” which was then heard by Matt Slocum of Sixpence None the Richer and included on their Platinum-selling, debut smash hit. This first commercial success as a songwriter fueled his already burning passion to make a career in music.
Sam Ashworth is now a Gold and Platinum-selling, Grammy-nominated vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and music producer. Since the release of his critically-acclaimed, 2005 solo album, Gonna Get It Wrong Before I Get It Right, Sam has spent most of his time writing and recording with artists such as Sixpence None the Richer, Switchfoot, Laidback Luke, The Civil Wars, Dierks Bentley, The Lone Bellow, and many more. Earlier this year, Sam released Thieves, his first solo project since 2008’s Say What You Want To. Now, his latest single with Rui, “Million Times,” is on Top 40 radio in the Netherlands and was awarded “Dance Smash” by Radio 538, Holland’s most popular radio station. “Million Times” is regarded by many as the summer anthem of 2016. Although the life of a recording artist/songwriter/record producer is hectic to say the least, Sam’s role as a proud, single father to three beautiful children remains his first priority and greatest source of inspiration.
